Corrections, appeals and removals
Waupaca Voice publishes resident-submitted accounts. Residents get things wrong sometimes, and so do we. A visible, working correction process is part of what makes this platform trustworthy rather than just another place people complain — so we take these requests seriously and we keep a record of material corrections.
Who can request a correction
Anyone. You do not need to have submitted the original report, and you do not need to be a Waupaca resident. This includes:
- A resident who wants to correct or withdraw their own submission
- A person or business who believes something published about them is inaccurate
- A City or County official, department, or contractor responding on the record
- Anyone who believes published content exposes private personal information
How to request one
Use the contact form and select “Correction or removal request.” To help us act quickly, identify:
- The specific page or issue (a link is ideal)
- The specific statement you believe is inaccurate or should be removed
- What you believe is correct, and any supporting information you can share
- Your relationship to the matter, if you’re comfortable saying
If you are the original submitter and simply want your own report removed, you can also use the privacy or data-deletion request option — you don’t need to justify the request.
What we do with it
- We acknowledge the request and review it promptly.
- We may contact the original submitter for clarification, where they consented to being contacted.
- Depending on what we find, we may correct the public summary, redact part of it, add the response alongside it, exclude the report from public statistics, or remove it entirely.
- We record the outcome. Material corrections are logged internally with a reason, and significant public corrections are noted on the affected issue page rather than made silently.
- We reply to let you know what was decided and why.
If content is urgent or unsafe
If published content exposes someone’s private personal information, appears to identify a minor, or creates a safety risk, say so in your message. We will unpublish first and evaluate afterward rather than the other way around.
Appeals
If your own submission was rejected, redacted or merged and you disagree with that decision, contact us with your private reference number (the WV- number emailed to you) and we will review the decision. Moderators can be wrong, and a second look costs us very little.
Official responses
The City of Waupaca, Waupaca County, public officials, service providers and organizations discussed here are welcome to submit a factual response for publication alongside the issue. Select “Submit an official response” on the contact form. We would rather publish your side than have residents see only one.
